Take a moment. Sit down. Get Comfy! Make sure you have a cup of coffee or something else delicious. Maybe a little snack at the ready. Turn your phone off! and just take a little tome to really watch this episode. This wasn't planned at all. I quite by accident chose to film a little private (solo) sailing adventure I was doing. And while I was editing. I suddenly realized I shot a fantastic, beautiful little sailing film. I highly advise watching this on a big screen, with a good sound system. Put up the volume a bit. Welcome back! Fun video! Thanks, Andrew 3:50
Great video! Thank You. I have a couple questions. Where are you (town name) at the end of the video? What is the purpose of what looks like rat lines on the port side of the boat by the side stays? Thanks again.
Cool that you noticed this 😂. There is a slight gap between my deck and the tensioners from my side stays. It's just big enough, that sometimes my genua or jib shoots would get stuck underneath them (not good!). So I tied some think single loops of 14 mm line underneath each stay to prevent this from happening. And has worked like a charm. Never any problems with shoots snagging on it ever again 🎉.
Every day! Oh my, we are In'na heaven on Earth 😊 you look well Mate 🌎 always clip on'na a Mike Kaptain ❤
How did you attach your tablet to the cabin? I am trying to plan where and how to mount Mt Samsung 11 inch tablet.
Just using a sturdy Velcro :). Using it for years now. Works great.
Always nice to see these sailing adventures bro.
Glad to see a video from you again! It's always fun. Have been on holiday for some days in Amsterdam three weeks ago, was great despite the weather. Have fun with sailing. Cheers

That was great. Thanks for taking the time Florian and Pip, to do the chat and all the insights. Pip sailed a great race and also helped open up the Vendee to a whole lot of English speakers.
Been missing your commentary Florian
Hey Florian, been missing your analysis on the Retour a la Base!! I'm sure you are busy but looking forward to your thought so far as Jean La Cam starts the race and the fleet goes by the Azores.
Nico Lunven on Holcim PRB is also a top 5 candidate!
Hi Florian, can you tell us what happened to Jean Le Cam, it looks like hes not racing?
He just left Martinique !!!
Oh! why did he start late?@@bdjm8595
Where has our intrepid leader of the SeaWolves pack been during the Retour a la Base? I’ve missed the coffee chats! Maybe a wrap-up?
Great effort doing the coverage for this race.
Great coverage. Most informative, thanks!
Thanks again for covering this so well, looking forward to more coverage soon!!
Orcas said, "wind farms stink."
Wow!
is your 'city' the Richat Structure?
Congratulations to all the competitors in this year's edition of the TJV. You made a good guess as to the top IMOCA yachts. Great analysis and race reporting. When people say no one reports sailing races like you they are telling the truth. I hope you'll continue covering other races including the upcoming Arkea Ultim Challenge around the world race starting on January 7th. It's the single-handed "Vendée Globe" but for the Ultim class. I don't think this has been done before although I could be mistaken. There are six confirmed competitors (not sure which boat is the sixth unless it's the former Actual). Should be very interesting to see these monsters race for a month. I was surprised to see you talk about the Richat structure in the end. Actually, I was shocked but in a pleasant way. Ever since I heard about this place several years ago I've been fascinated and trying to unearth as much information as possible, pun intended. The similarities with Plato's account are so numerous, that if it turns out to be nothing then it will be the biggest coincidence in the history of the world.
Sixth boat is Adagio (former Actual) with new comer in the class Eric Péron (previously in Class 40) Eric wanted first to run in Ocean Fifty class, but his main sponsors were not interested, but have been more interested in Ultim class, probably linked to the next Arkea Ultim Challenge who could become the very next "sexy" event Registration were closed on last june 30th, but in last September the class agreed to accept the late registration of an additional boat. This will be a great event because "flying ultim boats" were still in a process of development and were still regarded as "very fragile units" unable to do a circumnavigation. But since two years, theses boats seem to have proved to have matured a lot, and so Arkea Ultim Challenge has been decided. We have seen with the Transat Jacques Vabres that the hyper speed of theses boat authorize them to "escape" more easily from hard weather conditions, being larger and with a "true fly mode" (IMOCA are not totally flying as today as "T-Foils" are still forbidden), we have seen on the start of Transat Jacques Vabres that theses units were far more stable than any others in a context of bad sea state, so all in all theses kind of units may be the ultimate weapon in the southern.
@@fidelio3841 Thank you for the reply. The former Actual Ultim trimaran raced in the Route du Rhum last year under the name Mieux. Unfortunately, it didn't do too well compared to the more modern foiling Ultims. I was hoping someone would upgrade it and add L-foils to make it more competitive and have a larger fleet when the Ultim class races. The problem with old boats is the cost of upgrading versus what can be obtained realistically in true performance gains. We've seen older boats modified in the other classes with varying results. It's extremely expensive to upgrade. Unless you have a big sponsor you have to race with what you got. Even the current Actual (ex-Macif) is an old boat compared to the top 4 Ultims, and its age is also showing by arriving last unless the faster boats suffer damage. I wish Adagio all the best in the Arkea Ultim Challenge. It's going to be one hell of a race.
I’ve been looking for images of Teamwork & Malizia as they crossed the finish so close together! The canal tour was a fun bonus! it looks like a fault graben- a down-dropped block between two faults created by rifting. They can have steep walls in bedrock & I would not be at all surprised if humans took advantage of the rift valley-and even enhanced it- for use as a canal. Very interesting that it leads to the Eye/Richat Structure. Now I have something to look into :)
Florian, will you be covering the return race?
yes
The Eye of the Sahara, also known as the Rachat Structure is believed to be the remnant of a giant rock dome formed back in the days of Pangea. I don’t know about the canal but I bet a more mundane explanation, like a fault line, is more probable than a manufactured structure. Atlantis and a long canal are more fun though.
Too many paralleles to be summarily dismissed without exhaustive archeological research. It could literally take decades to determine with absolute certainty whether this was Atlantis or not. I've been interested in the legend my entire life. Read about countless theories claiming locations all around the planet. Some of them are good while others are preposterous. None of the competing theories have as many similarities as the Richat according to Plato's account. Seriously, it's not even close.
VERY cool canal/atlas coverage.
Good things come to the obedient one, rolled me Boat mate! Yes!! Ladybug is'sa Bullet proofed (just dumped the flowers) Algernon 😀 Top shelf Kaptain ❤️ 🌎 yep, raven's around, rockhound: ~ )_@m ~ ~
great coverage and nice editing thx
Charal lost their main downwind sail shortly after entering the trade winds. With 100 sqm less sail/power than the rest, 4th is actually pretty impressive!
I didn't know that! Color me impressed as well. I was disappointed with Charal's performance after the initial segment of the race. Now I can see they actually did very well all things considered.
How did you learn this information. I am always looking for more information on these races. Did you look at Charal's web site? Did you look at IMOCA web site? This Sea Wolf guy is a nice guy, but he does not have much information.
That's the Richat Structure in Mauritania. More here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richat_Structure
Thanks for the nice coverage of the race, it way WAY superior to the coverage on the official channel, and also for that impressive structure in the desert! I had heard of it, but i had no idea how clearly it is visible, and i never heared about the canal!
Thank you :)
Canal and desert city. That is fascinating.
